When to prune trees and shrubs in the garden?

 We water, fertilize, puff and puff and our bushes do not grow and bloom as we imagined. Contrary to appearances, many people forget about this prosaic, but necessary activity - TRIM.

Pruning fruit trees and shrubs is not only a procedure that changes the shape of our plant, it is primarily a procedure that facilitates branching, improves its condition, and also ensures abundant flowering.

When to prune coniferous trees and shrubs?

Most of the trees and shrubs in this group are pruned occasionally, in fact we can prune only when it is necessary to remove damaged, i.e. withered, broken, diseased or frozen branches. However, if we want to give a specific shape, e.g. form the plant into a ball or cone, we make the cut in early spring.

When to prune ornamental grasses?

Grasses are best cut in the spring after the end of severe frosts. Pampas grasses, miscanthus grasses, imperat grasses, spreaders, stipa, mollins - we cut them at a height of about 10-15 cm. Perennial clumps can be cut a little higher at a height of about 20-30 cm. Fescues, sedges (Carex) only need to be cleaned of dried leaves.

After the cut, it is worth smearing the plant with an appropriate ointment that will protect the shrub against diseases and insects, e.g. Target ointment, Koroderma Bros, Lac Balsam Substral.


It should be remembered that not all shrubs require pruning and we can include in this group: magnolias, azaleas and rhododendrons, palm maples, wig trees, serviceberry, golden caps, chestnuts, beeches, birches.

For pruning plants, choose a sharp tool with a smooth surface. It can be secateurs, scissors, saws.
