Industrial living room - how to arrange? Loft-style furniture and accessories

An industrial (loft) salon, i.e. decorated in the spirit of American factories of the 1950s. After the economic crisis, abandoned warehouses became a shelter and studio for artists, thus gaining a unique look.

You can recreate this unique atmosphere in your own living room. Fill the room with concrete, brick, metal and glass. Inspiration is at your fingertips!

Industrial showroom - for whom?

Industrial-style salons will appeal to people who like to surround themselves with materials such as concrete, glass, metal or brick. Interiors of this type are characterized by space, minimalism and a lot of light, which emphasize the charm of technical details. It is an excellent choice for people who appreciate a distinctive and slightly austere decor inspired by old factories. Lovers of cozy interiors warm up loft living rooms with a bit of wood.

Dominant colors in an industrial style

An industrial living room - with a kitchen or dining room - is characterized by a limited color palette. Walls, floors and furniture are usually kept in three colors: black, white and gray. Others, including: pink, gold, bottle green, navy blue or blue, are present in small quantities and as decorations: on chair upholstery and furniture fronts. Both a small industrial-style living room and a large living room can be enriched by introducing neon accents: green, red, orange and yellow - as a reminder of the original industrial markings.

Furniture for an industrial living room

Industrial-style living room furniture has a common denominator: geometric and economical form; they are also distinguished by lightness and openwork. In place of classic legs, metal, black painted bases appear: a coffee table, TV cabinet or a flowerbed. The same tendency is visible in the type of lighting - simple, metal lamps - and a stylized finned radiator, resembling a series of tubes fastened together. A stylish counterweight to the elements of equipment made of steel and brick walls are sofas and armchairs tempting with soft seats.

Industrial style couches

Sofas provide balance in often monochromatic (one-color) and cool, loft interiors. The perfect sofa can be upholstered in velor or velvet or covered with artificial leather. If you want to bring a bit of elegance to the living room, it is worth choosing upholstery enriched with quilts. In combination with a round, two-level coffee table and a finely bent metal lamp, we will break the raw character of the living room.

Armchairs and chairs for an industrial living room

After the industrial, cozy sofas, it's time to say a few words about the equally important armchairs and chairs. The industrial style loves varied textures, so while the armchairs are supposed to be soft, the chairs are made of rather harder materials. An intriguing effect can be obtained by combining a wooden table with an irregular edge with plastic chairs. Plastics are welcome in industrial salons, but only in small doses. It is worth paying attention to three industrial colors, leading the way in the room: white (chairs), black (lamps) and gray (sofas). Consistency guaranteed!

Cabinets, bookcases, coffee tables

An industrial living room, apart from a sofa and armchairs, is usually equipped with technical, steel and powder-coated black openwork shelves. There are also often coffee tables, e.g. with a glass top and a metal frame. Another way to develop a loft space is to use wood. A wooden table and a chest of drawers that separate the kitchen from the living room perfectly match the green elements in the form of plants - a substitute for nature in an industrial living room.

Industrial living room accessories

In an industrial living room, you won't have to deal with lots of decorations. Quality and originality are much more important than the quantity of additives. The general rule is to combine smooth accessories with those with a noticeable texture; glossy with matte, etc. How does it look in practice? To achieve the desired effect, you can combine, for example, a coffee table with a slightly rough surface with the smoothness of porcelain cups, and glossy large-format paintings with the matte upholstery of a sofa set.

Industrial style lighting

In a loft living room with a kitchen or a dining corner, lighting plays a huge role. Industrial lamps for the living room are divided into two groups. Among the economical glass and metal models, one can distinguish a chandelier for the living room, which often takes the form of a cluster of individual balls, devoid of traditional lampshades, on long cables.

The second group is lighting inspired by the one used in the theater or photo studio. Its characteristic feature is a movable top in the form of a reflector and three legs - as a base.

Wall decorations

In an industrial living room, put on stylized industrial accents, such as clocks with a classic Roman dial. Hanging models with an openwork structure, in which the passing hours are measured by metal hands, are very popular. Thanks to its light construction, the clock reveals a fragment of a gray or brick wall. A picture or a mirror leaning against the wall can also be used as decoration, which will additionally optically enlarge the space.

The walls in an industrial living room are often enriched with metal signs, posters and neon signs. Large-format industrial paintings for the living room play an important role. The loft style loves geometric and abstract motifs, which is why irregular, colorful shapes can live on the canvas, which in an interesting way refer to the colors of the upholstery and pillows scattered on the sofa.

Carpets and pillows

Carpets in the industrial living room are characterized by a geometric pattern and black and white. To fasten the interior with a stylish buckle, a similar motif can be successfully used on pillows. This type of pattern looks best against the background of brick walls and colorful upholstered furniture.

Plants

Plants in metal pots are a perfect decoration for loft interiors. However, not every species will look spectacular. For an industrial living room, choose rather large specimens with a large habit and a distinct texture of leaves that look great in metal casings.

This group includes mainly monsteras and sanseverias. In an industrial interior, a lyre-leaved ficus will also be perfect, whose leathery, large (almost half a meter!) and stiff leaves form a form resembling a musical instrument (lyre). The industrial living room will be enlivened by the "green accent - black flowerbed" duo, introducing the necessary dose of warmth to the interior with brick and concrete walls. A green composition can be complemented by various vases placed on a high shelf.

Summary: An industrial salon in 10 steps

Do you feel that industrial style may become your favorite aesthetic? The loft-style living room will surprise you with its chic. Just be inspired by our tips.

1. Base on equipment made of: glass, metal, concrete, brick and wood.

2. Build a coherent color palette (black, white, grey), against which vivid - even neon - colors will appear.

3. Metal, black-painted bookcases, flowerbeds and coffee tables should have an openwork, visually light form.

4. Choose cozy lounge furniture with soft upholstery.

5. Choose accessories for an industrial living room on the basis of opposites: smooth with rough, glossy with matte, etc.

6. Choose industrial-style lighting: simple, steel models of lamps, often with a single bulb, or examples typical of a photo studio decor.

7. It is worth complementing the whole thing with a black and white carpet and pillows with a geometric pattern.

8. The living room will come to life and result in a loft look thanks to plants in metal pots.

9. Opt for wall decorations in the form of large lace clocks with Roman numerals.

10. Abstract, large-format paintings can also live on the wall in an industrial living room.

Do vintage elements match the industrial style?

Of course! The industrial living room and vintage elements are echoes of the interior design past, which are connected by a certain severity. The living room will gain a lot when you put a vintage piece of furniture in it, e.g. a sideboard or a cabinet. It is worth combining two popular materials in the loft style: wood and steel painted black.

Tip: a refreshed piece of furniture will develop its decorative potential in a living room based on two opposite colors on the color wheel. We are talking about, for example: a green wall, a sofa and pouffes, and a reddish brick wall. Post-industrial interiors with open plans also like symmetry, e.g. in the form of a centrally placed cabinet with two flowerbeds and two lamps on the sides.

What floor to choose for an industrial-style living room?

What else characterizes industrial decor? A living room in this style usually has a concrete floor (raw floor), consistent with the architectural concrete on the walls. If you want to insulate the interior, use classic parquet or renovated old boards that perfectly match the red brick. Fans of modern solutions will also like the floor covered with epoxy resin.
