Do you love your cats? GIVE THEM CATNIMP!

The plant is inconspicuous and undemanding. Perennial, suitable for both pots and soil. Flowers in purple, blue, pink or white depending on the variety.

Reaches sizes oscillating between 30-80cm. It would seem that catnip is nothing special. Well, nothing could be more wrong! This is an exceptionally unique plant, because it was loved by ... cats.

The culprit of this feline love is the nepetalactone contained in catnip, i.e. the feline happiness pheromone. It can cause all kinds of reactions in cats, especially those of childbearing age. Under the influence of this smell, cats begin to roll, purr, rub, jump, meow, demand caresses. Catnip is a plant for the cat. This is most likely related to the sexual behavior of cats.

The "high" effect usually lasts up to 10 minutes, after which the cat loses interest in the scent. After a few hours, the smell of catnip becomes attractive again. Some cats bite or eat the leaves, but don't worry, it's not dangerous for them. Only a third of the entire cat population is indifferent to the effects of this plant. In some cats, catnip can also send out aggression.

Does catnip repel mosquitoes?

Interestingly, thanks to the high content of essential oils, catnip effectively repels mosquitoes, flies and cockroaches. In addition, it can be successfully used in herbal medicine, as it has anti-inflammatory, diuretic and sedative properties. Added to a salad or salad, it will give a distinct and sharper taste to the dish.

How to grow catnip?

Catnip is extremely easy to grow. It grows successfully on almost any type of substrate, as long as it is not too dry, too heavy or wet. It does not require special care, it does not need to be fertilized. For proper growth and lush flowering, it needs only the sun. Planted in the shade, it blooms poorly and spreads poorly. It grows into dense clumps.

Catnip begins to bloom in late May and early June and develops until September. It rarely gets sick and is resistant to low temperatures. Catnip is used primarily in perennial beds. It goes very well with lavender. It is also perfect for borders or as a lawn border.

To sum up, plant catnip in the garden, and you will not only decorate the garden beautifully, scare away mosquitoes and, above all, give your meowing pets the greatest pleasure ...
