What plants do we plant in May?

While in April the weather can still fluctuate quite strongly (it is not without reason that there is a proverb "April weaves, because it alternates, a bit of winter, a bit of summer"), May is a rather stable month. In the vast majority, warm days prevail, and recently even hot days.

There are storms and rains, but they are necessary. Without them, nature would not wake up so quickly after a long winter. Therefore, it is worth taking advantage of this opportunity and continue further work in the garden. So, what plants do we plant in May?

Trees, shrubs and other ornamental plants

As coniferous trees and shrubs are well taken in May, it is worth considering this month whether we want to enrich our garden with junipers, firs, spruces, pines or thujas. However, we must bear in mind that at this time you can only sow plants sold in containers or with a lump of earth, because it is too late for those with uncovered roots at this time of year.

Watering plays a special role here - both before planting the seedlings and after placing them in the soil. In addition, you can safely plant begonias, gladioli, dahlias, anemones, marigolds, sunflowers, pansies, asters, geraniums, fuchsias, decorative pumpkins, hollyhocks, carnations and bluebells.

In addition, in May, it is worth tidying up the pond a bit. This is the right time to sow new plants and divide into clumps old ones that have grown too large.

Vegetables and herbs

In addition to coniferous trees and shrubs and other ornamental plants (both garden and balcony plants grown in boxes and pots), in May you need to start planting seedlings of vegetables and herbs. And so, at the beginning of the month, we plant cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers and aubergines in foil tunnels.

This is also the right time for mid-late varieties of carrots and red beets, radishes, parsley and dill. In turn, in the second half of May, when we are sure that we will not be surprised by night frosts, we sow corn, beans, zucchini, pumpkins, squashes, patisons, and at the end of May seedlings of celery, leeks, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers directly into the ground and eggplants.

In addition, our crops must not lack aromatic herbs, thanks to which we can flavor our dishes, e.g. basil. We can also try to plant fruit, namely watermelons and melons, which do well in our climate.
