Thyme - what does it help and how to grow Thyme?

Thyme is a perennial found almost all over the world, which not only looks beautiful in rock gardens and walls, but is also used in the kitchen, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and perfume industry. However, it is primarily used in natural medicine and herbal medicine.

What properties does thyme show? What does it help with? How to cultivate it? We are in a hurry to answer!

Thyme - properties

Thyme is primarily known as a respiratory aid. Thyme infusions relieve dry cough and facilitate breathing. The plant is an excellent expectorant, disinfecting catarrhal conditions of the throat, bronchi and larynx. It also helps fight persistent runny nose. And as it inhibits the growth of bacteria, it should also be used prophylactically.

Considering the fact that thyme contributes to the removal of deposits deposited on the respiratory tract from the body, people addicted to smoking should be interested in it. In addition, thyme improves the digestive process, hence it brings relief in indigestion, flatulence and problems with the intestines and stomach.

In addition, thyme has strong antiseptic and bactericidal properties. Hence, infusions of this herb eliminate internal inflammation, and compresses bring relief in external infections. People suffering from acne, eczema, ulcers, festering wounds can confidently reach for thyme. Finally, thyme simply strengthens the human body. Drinking and bathing in thyme infusion help to overcome stress, migraines, general weakness of the body, promote relaxation and soothe the senses.

Thyme - cultivation

Thymes are perennials that take the form of semi-shrubs, therefore they are ideal for planting rockeries and walls, creating dense, almost fluffy carpets on them. They look beautiful in the company of conifers and larger perennial shrubs. Especially that they are not problematic in terms of cultivation - they have low nutritional requirements and cope well with both drought and winter.

What's more, they like sandy, low-fertile, dry soils, so they don't need to be fertilized or watered. They prefer well-lit positions. We especially recommend sand thyme varieties - golden and purple.
