Lawn - how to set up?
In order for a truly perfect turf to grow on our land, we must devote a lot of work and attention to it. We suggest how to set up a lawn from sowing step by step.
Choosing a place
The first step is to choose a place where the grass will have optimal conditions for growth. The most important thing is good sunlight. At worst, the soil may be slightly shaded, but only for part of the day.
Otherwise, the grass will grow poorly and cause us a lot of trouble. In addition, grasses have high water needs. Therefore, if in the place where we plan to plant it, the ground quickly heats up and dries out, it is worth considering the installation of an irrigation system (of course, before laying the turf), or at least series-connected sprinklers.
Substrate preparation
Next, we need to properly prepare the ground for sowing grass. First of all, we should check whether it has a humus layer or is devoid of it. In the first case, it is enough to dig the ground, remove the stones and weed.
In the second, when the top layer of soil is the so-called necrosis, it is necessary to fertilize the soil by adding organic substances to it.
Then test the reaction. Grasses require a slightly acidic substrate, so if the soil pH is below 5.5, it must be limed, and above 7 - use acidifying fertilizers. After mixing nutrients and fertilizers with the soil, the soil should be leveled and compacted. For this purpose, the soil is raked and compacted several times using a special roller.
Seed selection
Before we buy the first better seeds, we have to think about how our lawn will be used. This should depend on what mix we choose. There are compositions containing seeds of decorative, universal and sports grasses. The first of them make it possible to obtain the effect of a perfect, uniform turf, against which the flower beds look beautiful.
Such turf is delicate and soft and requires regular care. Universal grasses are easier to maintain, and they also tolerate trampling better. Finally, sports grasses combine the features of decorative lawns with resistance to intensive use.
